Recycling

What Happens To Your Old Tyres Once They Come Off The Car
Nobody thinks about this. You get new tyres fitted, the old ones disappear into the back of the van, and that's the end of it as far as most people are concerned. But used tyres are a genuine problem in Australia. They can't go to a landfill legally in NSW; they don't break down, and when they pile up, they become a fire risk. Tyre 2 U takes the old tyres away when we fit new ones and passes them to recycling partners in line with local disposal practices. No drop-off required. Removal is typically included as part of the service.
Where The Rubber Actually Goes
Recycled tyres don't just get buried somewhere quieter. The rubber gets shredded into crumb rubber (a material that ends up in school playground surfaces, running tracks, and road base). Steel belts come out separately and go through metal recycling. Some tyre-derived material goes into industrial fuel processing. Tyre 2 U works with recycling partners to support responsible disposal practices, which track end-of-life volumes nationally and keep material out of illegal dumps. It's not a perfect system. But it's a real one, and it's the one we use.
56 Million Tyres a Year. Most Go Nowhere Good
That's the number Australia generates annually in end-of-life tyres. A chunk of those end up dumped illegally (roadsides, bush blocks, properties that get quietly turned into tyre graveyards). Cleaning them up costs councils money they don't have. At Tyre 2 U, responsible disposal is just how we operate; not a premium add-on, not something we mention only when asked. If you're hiring a mobile tyre service, the least it should do is not make the waste problem someone else's headache.
